Anglesey Abbey is closely connected to Cambridge because it's only about 15 minutes driving distance from Cambridge. What is strange about Anglesey Abbey is the word "abbey". Judging by the name alone you expect Aglessey to be some ruins of an old Abbey. However, it's far from the truth.

Italy is a large country. You can drive for many hours to reach certain famous tourist destinations. It is really cool then, when you are able to find some cool places to stop on the way. While Genoa is a famous tourist attraction in its own right, we only had time to treat it as a rest stop on our way to the French Riviera. Northern Italy is home of most of Italy's industry but it's also home of the Alps. The Italian part of the Alps gives the tourist ey unending scenery to delight in and plenty of space to relax. Barcis is a very small tourist village nestled in the Alps on the shores of Lago di Barcis(Lake Barcis). Driving to Barcis will take you thorough some of the longest tunnels in Italy, but it will also give you beautiful and amazing natural beauty to behold.

When visiting a major tourist attraction, most people only see the "big" things. It's understandable because not everyone has the luxury of spending a lot of time in a great place. However, most tourist attractions have a lot more to offer than what one can visit in a few hours. Cambridge, England is no exception to the rule. While the town is full of tourist buses that come for a day trip from London, Cambrige yields it's beauty to those who want to slow down and explore the city. Oso Flaco Lake travel pictures

Oso Flaco Lake is a hidden natural gem. Oso Flaco lake is hidden in the Pismo Dunes Natural Preserve and it is surrounded by farm land. Situated about 30 minutes south of Pismo Beach and about 10 minutes north of the small town of Guadelupe, Oso Flaco Lake is hard to find. There is only one small street sign on Cabrillo Highway. If you don't know what you're looking for, you will definitely miss it. Once you get to the sign there is another five to ten minutes drive through farm lands until you get to the Oso Flaco park. But what a beautiful place Oso Flaco Lake is! It is nestled among sand dunes and the state has built a beautiful walkway that goes almost over the entire lake. Then you can continue walking all the way to the ocean. You get an amazing view at the end of the walkway. It's just a beautiful place!

Buellton is many times confused with Solvang, California. On the one hand, there is good reason for them to be confused simply because they are very close to one another. On the other hand, Solvang and Buellton are very different based on the tourist attractions they both offer. While Solvang provides great European architecture and feel, Buellton is a regular American town that has just a few attractions: Andersen's Pea Soup complex and Ostrich Land. Regardless of the differences, Buellton makes a great rest stop if you're driving on the 101 and you want your family to take a break from driving. See more pictures from Buellton, California

Avila Beach is another hidden jewel of the California Central Coast. It is hidden in the San Luis Obispo Bay and if you don't go there on purpose, you will never see it. Avila Pretty is well hidden from the 101 freeway by a beautiful forest and some very tall hills. These hills provide amazing views of the ocean and of San Luis Obispo Bay. For now, I'm only posting a few pictures from Avila beach but pretty soon I'll post my detailed Avila Beach travel guide. Enjoy my pictures from Avila Beach for now.

Pismo Beach is one of those hidden tourist jewels that is within easy reach but bypassed many times by tourists. The California coast is just beautiful off the 101 freeway in the Pismo Beach area. The fact that many larger tourist attractions like San Luis Obisbo and Hearst Castle are so close, most tourists just pass by Pismo Beach on their way up north. What a mistake! Pismo Beach is just an amazing stop even if you have only few hours to spare. Pretty soon I'll post my detailed Pismo Beach travel guide, but for now enjoy more pictures from Pismo Beach.

Yosemite National Park travel pictures

I usually take every chance I get to go to Yosemite National Park. My cousin from Switzerland came to visit us and he agreed to go see Yosemite National Park for two days. Even though he lives next to the Swiss Alps, he still enjoyed the hikes and views in Yosemite. I'll write more about visiting Yosemite, but for now enjoy the travel pictures from Yosemite: Vernal and Nevada falls, Yosemite falls and an older gallery containing Tuolumne Meadows.

Lake Tahoe travel pictures

We finally got to visit Lake Tahoe, California. Both my wife and I were dreaming about being able to visit Lake Tahoe for a long long time. With a toddler and a newborn we kept thinking that it will be a while before we could enjoy some time at Lake Tahoe. However, in the middle of September, we attended a wedding for some good friends of ours in Sacramento and then we decided to go visit Lake Tahoe since it's only one hour away from Sacramento. It was well worth the effort. There is a lot to write about Lake Tahoe, but for now enjoy only the Lake Tahoe photo galleries.

Back in September we have visited the Sacramento area and we got to visit the State Capitol, Old Sacramento and Folsom Old Powerhouse. We had a great time in Sacramento even though there were a couple of days that were very hot and humid. Those days made us very thankful we live pretty close to the ocean and we never have to deal with this much humidity.

We have visited Sighisoara in September 2007 but it took me a long time to actually post pictures from our trip. We loved Sighisoara, even though they were still doing lots of building and fixing up. The old fortress on the hill is the main attraction but even the city at the bottom of the hill is very nice to stroll through. I went with my daughter to the beach one weekend. She really wanted to go see "sharks" at the beach. So, we did go to the beach but didn't see any sharks...which was good. We did see lots of pelicans and one sea lion swimming very close to shore. That was really cool! I decided that we could go to the Point Mugu beach since we haven't gone there in a long time. Here's another travel gallery from my brother. I have gotten used with his great pictures and I can's wait to see them every time he comes back from vacation. My good friend Jason visited Pagosa Springs, Colorado earlier this year. He took his family on a nature trip and he was very kind to allow me to post some of his great pictures on my site. I have not visited Pagosa Springs, but based on the pictures it looks like a great place to visit with your family...well if you live nearby. There is a small zoo that features a bear, a wolf, a mountain lion and other animals...caged of course. You can take a small steam train that will give you great views of the valley and forest. Silverwood Lake in Hesperia California is well known for many things: great picnic areas, stunning natural beauty and amazing fishing. We only got to stop at a vista point overlooking the lake. I wish we would have had more time to visit the lake this time. I have only visited Silverwood Lake once before...a few years ago and I was impressed by how blue and clean the water was. Grand Canyon National Park South Rim – Travel Pictures.

We visited Grand Canyon National Park as part of our Las Vegas trip. Actually, this was the last part of our trip. After a stop at Hoover Dam we kept on going through the desert all the way to Williams Arizona. After spending the night there, we visited the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I struggled with taking pictures and not being able to capture the vastness of the Grand Canyon. I found it very difficult to be purposeful in taking great pictures. Hoover Dam, Nevada and Arizona

When we visited Las Vegas, we decided to drive all the way to the Grand Canyon. On the way to the Grand Canyon we have stopped at Hoover Dam...of course we did! It's was right on our way from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. This was a good opportunity to stretch our legs a little and see some breathtaking views of the Colorado River and of the Hoover Dam. The Wynn and Encore in Las Vegas, Nevada

Supposedly, the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada is only for the rich. It definitely looks like it even if we only judge by the Ferarri and Maserati dealers that are on site. Too bad you don't get to just walk in the showroom. I guess they're afraid that regular people like us would leave their fingerprints on the cars. They look cool no matter what...even if only seen through the window. The hotel and casino don't look very impressive from the inside...except for the shopping galleries. Beware, strollers with small children are not allowed inside the Wynn...I thought that was plain terrible...but oh well, what can I do? See more pictures from The Wynn in Las Vegas.

Venetian is another European copy...scaled down a little obviously. Yes, it has the gondolas, with Italian singers and all...I'm still not sure if the songs are taped (they look and sound very real), but it is copied nevertheless. It's ok though, 'cause you only drive a few hundred miles from Los Angeles and you get to see Venice...or something pretty close to it. See more pictures from The Venetian in Las Vegas.

New York, New York in Las Vegas, Nevada

New York, New York is another well-known casino in Las Vegas. It sits right at the entrance on the strip, right across the MGM Grand. The Statue of Liberty replica is huge and it serves as an easy way to locate the casino. Here's the photo gallery from The Mirage in Las Vegas. This resort boasts a private dolphin habitat and a private zoo with Siberian tigers and white lions. This is definitely a must see for any family with children traveling to Las Vegas. The animals are simply impressive. I have never seen tigers this big at any of the zoos I have ever visited. On the way down from Tuolomne Meadows in upper Yosemite to the Yosemite Valley...a great day for hiking...we even got some snow thanks to the snow clouds in the picture.

Big Bear Lake – a very dry season

A dry season in California creates new beaches on Big Bear Lake. This picture from September 2004 shows lots of white sand on the shores of this beautiful lake. You can also notice the dry vegetation. If you know Big Bear, you will notice that this green is very dry compared with the normal bright green that you normally see in Big Bear throughout the year.
