Buellton is a relaxing stop for the California traveler

Buellton is a small town north of Santa Barbara, California. It is right next to the 101 freeway and it provides very easy access to the California central coast area. However, there is not much to see and do in Buellton itself, but the area around Buellton is full of natural beauty and tourist attractions. Lots to see in Palm Springs and the surrounding areas. If you make sure you don't visit Palm Springs after middle of May and before middle of September, you will have a great time in the Palm Springs area. If you come during the summer, you will be confined inside your hotel where the air conditioner will make the temperature bearable.

Every year the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California puts on the best show. Entitled the Tournament of Roses, this amazing parade is all about flowers and in particular about roses. We always wanted to go to the Rose Parade, but with two small children coming out in the very early hours of the morning just to get a somewhat decent seat, is out of the question. So, we opted to come see the floats in what is called the Post Parade event where you come admire the floats that have been parked on a couple of wide streets. Is it really worth it? Sometimes when traveling you get to witness amazing things that you were not planning to see at all. This is what happened to me when going to the beach again at Point Mugu State Beach in California. I have brought some relatives of ours to the beach since they have not been in this part of the state. When we got there, we noticed that the waves were pretty rough and very loud (about 10 feet high). The water was breaking very close to shore, which made it pretty hard for us to enjoy the water. Eventually we decided to head back home since we couldn't really play in the water much.

Day trip to the beach at Point Mugu, California

We wanted to go to the beach one weekend and we decided to go to Point Mugu since we haven't been there in a long time. Since I have forgotten to take cash with me, I couldn't park at the state beach and ended up parking right next to the Mugu Rock and then went down to a small rock beach nearby. We ended up having a great time and saw a sea lion and lots of pelicans. My daughter loved the trip.

A daytrip to UCLA is educational for the whole family.

We have visited UCLA in the winter on a sunny December day. Even though the day was short, we had a great time. I always like visiting the UCLA campus, regardless if it's summer or winter, school day or weekend...I just love it. Maybe it's because I graduated from UCLA myself...yeah it's because of that. However, I believe anyone can enjoy visiting the campus for a day, including your children.

This is an article that I wanted to write for a long time. It is a bit long, maybe that's why I took such a long time to write. However, this is our favorite Southern California tour. When we have friends and family visiting from outside of California we always take them on this tour because they get to see some of the best tourist sites in SoCal. Yeah, it's true, this tour doesn't include Disneyland, Universal Studios or Sea World, but those are attractions that anyone would know about. Our tour hits the best things to see in SoCal apart from amusement parks. The best thing about this tour is that it can be done in one day...a full day that is.

Day trip in the middle of nature at Silverwood Lake and Wrightwood California

We have recently taken a day trip to Silverwood Lake and Wrightwood here in Southern California. While these destinations are practically unknown to tourists, they are popular for the local people. They are perfect travel destinations for a day trip on a sunny day (which are plenty in Southern California). Water, nature and maybe...snow will make a great weekend Southern California trip.

If there is one place that children always like to visit it is the zoo. No matter how small or large, any zoo is a cool place for children. Animals are just very interesting for children. However, if on top of that you add the ocean and a wonderful sunny climate then you get the greatest place for children to visit. Well, there is such a place and it's called the Santa Barbara, Zoo. This is arguably my favorite family destination of all the Southern California day trip destinations.

If you live in Southern California, snow is a rare occurrence. If you don't make some extra effort, your children might grow up not knowing what snow is. However, one of the greatest things about living in Southern California is that pretty much everyone lives within a few hours from the beach and within a few hours from the snow. I love snow and I love to take my family to play in the snow at least once a year...and it doesn't take much effort. While, everyone knows about the big Southern California ski resorts, there is very little information available about places where you can take small kids so that they can simply play in the snow.

Hearst Castle is one of the few buildings in America that bears the name "Castle". We just don't have castles here like they have in Europe. Castles are a thing of the past and especially in California we don't have old buildings except for the few old missions that are scattered along the coast. I know I am exaggerating a little but not too much. So, just the name Hearst Castle becomes interesting almost immediately to the tourist.

We took advantage of the 2Fer ticket for Southern California residents when we visited Disneyland on Easter weekend. So, two weeks after visiting Disneyland during Spring Break, we came back to visit California Adventure for FREE ! This was a great deal indeed. The simple fact that we came after Spring Break made our experience a lot better than what we went through when visiting Disneyland.

Disneyland is called the "happiest place on earth"...at least that's how the Disney company calls it. A place of magic and wonder where Mickey Mouse is the king. I usually visit Disneyland only when relatives or friends out of town come and visit California. Disneyland is a must see attraction for Southern California, so we've got to take our friends when they come to visit. This time however, was very special because I took my wife and my daughter to visit and it was their first time visiting Disneyland. I think it's pretty cool to take people to Disneyland especially if they've never been there before. I wouldn't say that this place was very happy...especially because of the crowds...but it was very nice and entertaining for sure.

Solvang is a quiet little town, with an European reputation even though it is located in the heart of California. There are many small towns scattered all over California, but Solvang is much different than all other small towns. Danish and Dutch early settlers in California were determined to maintain their heritage in everything they did and most of all in everything they built. From shops and restaurants to office building have all been built in Danish style.

Santa Barbara, California is the setting for many movies and soap operas. Beautiful beaches, rich people, movie stars and lots and lots of shopping. No wonder, Santa Barbara has become a real tourist attraction especially during the weekends. It is very rare for American cities to cater to the weekend traveler and the tourist, but Santa Barbara has made tourism a priority.

Camarillo Christmas Parade

I call this the "Pajama Parade" because parade participants come dressed in their everyday clothes even their pajamas sometimes. Even though it has improved over the years, this is not the "Rose Parade" with fancy floats and carefully selected marching bands. The Camarillo Christmas Parade is a parade for the community; it's a great feeling to see people you know walking in the parade.

If you're visiting California you must've heard of Malibu...stars, expensive homes, beaches...just beautiful. But what is there to visit besides beaches? Are there any other tourist spots? I found two...actually two in one. The Malibu Lagoon Park...beautiful beach, surfers, lots of wildlife and the beautiful Adamson House...talk about attraction concentration!

Big Bear Lake – a very dry season

A dry season in California creates new beaches on Big Bear Lake. This picture from September 2004 shows lots of white sand on the shores of this beautiful lake. You can also notice the dry vegetation. If you know Big Bear, you will notice that this green is very dry compared with the normal bright green that you normally see in Big Bear throughout the year.
