How to get close to the Arch of Triumph in Paris

The Arch of Triumph or Le Arc de Triomphe in French, is located at the end of the most famous avenue in the world: Avenue des Champs-Elysees. Well, it depends what you mean by the end of Chaps-Elysees.  Most
people, meaning most tourists, will come on the Champs-Elysees from Place de la Concorde, which is the other end of Avenue des Champs-Elysees.

Therefore, if you’re walking on Camps-Elysees from Place de la Concorde towards the Arch of Triumph, you’re good as far as the direction.  But once you get to the Arch of Triumph and you notice people on the top of the Arch you wonder…how did they get there?

There are no apparent signs, and once you get to the very large roundabout called Charles-de-Gaulle Etoile, there is no crossing to get to the middle where the Arch of Triumph is.  What do you do?

Be at the very end of Champs-Elysees

The first thing to do is to be on the left or the right hand side of the Champs-Elysees all the way at the end and face the Arch of Triumph.

If you’re on the left hand side of Champs-Elysees then look to your left among some of the trees planted there, you will see a fenced in entry to the underground passageway…this is the way to get under the roundabout and get to the Arch of Triumph.

If you’r eon the right hand side of Champs-Elysees then look to your right, behind you and notice a concrete enclosure that will also lead underground to the Arch of Triumph.

Looking at the Arch of Triumph pan to the left and to the right and notice the entries to the underground passageway leading to the Arch of Triumph in the middle of Charles de Gaulle-Etoille.
