Gruyeres is a small mountain village in the Gruyere region of Switzerland. It is famous for cheese and the Gruyeres sour cream. The cheese is great indeed! However, we were not very impressed by the sour cream…it was way too thick and fatty. Most of all we were not impressed with the prices…but we got used to it in Switzerland…it’s just an expensive country.

Gruyeres is as pretty as a postcard.
Return from Alpine Pasture in Annecy, France.
We were in Annecy in 2005 at the beginning of October and stumbled upon this farmers’ festival. It took me a while to figure out what the name of this festival was but I finally found it: Return from alpine pasture (Le Retour des Alpages). It takes place the second Saturday of October, every year. We just happened to visit Annecy on that Saturday and it was great…We sampled local food, saw a cow parade and listened to local music…all this with tons of other people.
The Arch of Triumph in Bucharest, Romania is similar to the Arch of Triumph in Paris, France.
Who said that only the French have an Arch of Triumph? Well there is another one in Bucharest, Romania…it’s a little smaller…but it is called the Arch of Triumph and serves the same purpose as the original Arch of Triumph in Paris, France. The Romanian military uses the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest as the focal point for their yearly parade, just like the French military marches on Champs d’Elysees on France National Day on July 14th.
Day trip to Malibu, California – lots of things to see in one place.
If you’re visiting California you must’ve heard of Malibu…stars, expensive homes, beaches…just beautiful. But what is there to visit besides beaches? Are there any other tourist spots? I found two…actually two in one. The Malibu Lagoon Park…beautiful beach, surfers, lots of wildlife and the beautiful Adamson House…talk about attraction concentration!
Amsterdam – in late fall the flowers are only in the markets
In my previous Amsterdam post I was showing a picture from late summer and the flowers where everywhere on each bridge almost. As the cold season sets in, the flowers start disappearing from the streets and are confined only to the flower shops.
Yosemite National Park – full of life in the Spring
On the way down from Tuolomne Meadows in upper Yosemite to the Yosemite Valley…a great day for hiking…we even got some snow thanks to the snow clouds in the picture.
Big Bear Lake – a very dry season
A dry season in California creates new beaches on Big Bear Lake. This picture from September 2004 shows lots of white sand on the shores of this beautiful lake. You can also notice the dry vegetation. If you know Big Bear, you will notice that this green is very dry compared with the normal bright green that you normally see in Big Bear throughout the year.
Montreaux and beautiful Lake Geneva
While I was in Montreaux, Switzerland and waiting for some tea to brew…a storm was brewing over Lake Geneva. In a matter of minutes the clouds came over the mountains and engulfed the sun and turned a sunny and peaceful sky into a threatening scene.I was very impressed by the power of nature on display over this lake.
Amsterdam – just beautiful in the summer
Amsterdam in the summer is just beautiful and quiet. Flowers everywhere and bicycles…the only noisy people in town are … the tourists. This city has amazed me every time I have visited it…nobody is honking, nobody is yelling…just make sure you don’t get run over by a bicycle! The summer is the greatest time to visit Amsterdam, because during the winter Amsterdam is very cold. I think Amsterdam is the easiest city to visit while waiting on a connecting flight. If you have at least two hours in between your flights in Amsterdam, just take the train and go visit the city.
